Sound is delivered via base-mounted stereo speakers or a rear-mounted headphone output. There are 128 internal voices to choose from, with options for variable keyboard split or dual layering and an overall polyphony of 80 notes.

To enhance the selected tone, reverb and chorus effects can be applied. An internal metronome has six different beat patterns that can be used for practise, as well as a record function. Furthermore, the WK-400 has 52 internal demo songs. When connected to a computer via USB, MIDI is sent and received for recording and playback. A L+R Aux input and similar stereo line outputs are provided for connecting to a PA system, monitors, or recording device.
